7WHSKRS Cat Rescue, Inc.

Winter Garden
FL
34787
7WHSKRS stands for 7 Women Helping Save Kitties Rescue Society. It is our goal to help as many abandoned, stray and injured kitties in the Winter Garden area as we can through in-home fostering and our supporters. All of us have been in rescue 8 or more years and have combined experience of more than 50 years. Our mission is to rescue cats from the street before they get to the shelter and to find them a home where they will be adopted and forever loved. We also want to help as many of the serious cases at our local shelter as we can -- i.e. cats who come to the shelter with severe injuries or medical conditions.

Formed in 1913, The Center for Animal Health and Welfare (formerly the Northampton County SPCA) is a private organization. We are not affiliated with any other SPCA or ASPCA. We are not a government agency, but are a non-profit organization with a 501c3 status. In 2003 we committed ourselves to saving lives and became a no-kill shelter. We are dedicated to providing a safe and healthy environment for animals. We have improved our foster program, increased adoptions and offer a low-cost spay/neuter program. Fund raising, donations and bequests make up 90% of our income and we apply for many grants. Adoption fees, relinquishment fees, memberships and agreements with some of the local municipalities, to take in their strays, generate the rest of our revenue. Although we greatly appreciate the help from the municipalities that do support us, not all do. Northampton County contributes about $5,000. Financials We are responsible for a $900,000 operating budget annually. Our major costs are: Veterinary care Medical supplies Kennel supplies Spay/Neuter expenses Insurance Utilities Payroll. Adoption We make every effort to find loving homes for these scared and lonely pets. We do not set a fixed time limit on animals, but keep them for as long as they remain adoptable.

Located in the rural community of Fallon, Nevada, and founded in 1986, Churchill Animal Protection Society (CAPS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit shelter caring for homeless dogs and cats by providing immediate medical assistance, critical spay and neuter surgeries, safe housing, educational resources for pet owners, and ultimately placing them into loving homes. These dogs and cats are worthy of a second chance, and without this group of caring supporters, they most often would perish.

Houston Cares Animal Rescue, formerly known as Westbury CARE, is more than just a 501c3 rescue, it’s a community of animal lovers working together to make a difference for animals in Houston. What began as a small group of neighbors in Westbury, a Houston neighborhood, trying to help the animals in their area, quickly grew into a non-profit rescue because the need in Houston is so great. Despite its growth, Houston Cares has aimed to keep its community feel and is built on the idea that it will take a community of Houstonians to make change. It is estimated that there are over a million strays in Houston. We believe change will only happen through a multi prong approach including rescue, education, spay/neuter, and changes to our legislation. We believe that the more the rescue community works together and supports each other, the more the animals benefit and the more change will be seen. We are proud to be a small and growing part of the Houston rescue community. Please join our efforts through fostering, volunteering, adopting, or donating

Our Nation holds a dirty little secret that many don’t know. An epidemic since the late 70’s, when parrot breeding first took off. Nobody was prepared to care for a “pet” that could outlive them up to 60 plus years. Hollywood featured parrots in movies and tv shows; they were the new fad everyone had to have. But after having one for a short period of time, with no direction and no information, people realized how demanding it was to care for them. Their health deteriorated, most were given away and many were euthanized. Across America, special individuals take in and care for unwanted parrots, mostly in their own homes on their own dime, doing the best they can to provide some sort of life for these amazing creatures. Parrots are not native to the US and are difficult to keep as pets, they are not like cats and dogs. Because of their long-life expectancy, they are a long-term commitment that many people don’t plan for. Yet, despite the hundreds of thousands of abandoned birds across the globe, parrot rescues and sanctuary facilities are extremely rare and hard to find. Colorado alone has over 270 licensed animal shelters, of which, only 3 are licensed to care for companion birds. This is why Pikes Peak Parrot Rescue was founded (3PR). There was an urgent need to be filled! In 2013, the rescue was originally started and has since rehomed over 700 parrots! Our goal is to find loving capable forever homes and families for unwanted companion birds along with educating every person we can on how to provide a fulfilling life for their parrot. People don’t realize that a parrot may have a small brain, but they have almost as many neurons as a chimpanzee; they can speak and associate words with objects and have proven to have the logic of a 4year old child. All parrots are sweet and cute as babies, but once a parrot matures through adolescence, they develop their own personalities, just like people do. It’s at this point most are surrendered because their owner didn’t take the time to educate themselves on how to care for them. A rescue bird is then labeled as “damaged”; a stigma that many use to define birds in rescues and sanctuaries, not understanding or realizing that most of these birds still have another 20-60 years left to live without a home or family. All the while, bird breeders are producing more babies, continuing this cycle and adding to this already epidemic that has plagued us for over 40 years. 3PR wants people to know that NO bird is damaged. They are so similar to us because they know when they like someone and when they don’t, which is why it’s important to visit parrot rescues and sanctuaries to spend time with a bird before you make a lifelong commitment to one; they are not obedient like a dog; when a parrot CHOOSES you, there is no greater feeling in the world! They will be your lifelong friend and genuine part of your family. We urge people to source out a rescue instead of buying a bird from a pet store or breeder. There are so many birds already here and are in need of a home for their long lives ahead. Pikes Peak Parrot Rescue is only able to continue our mission with your help. As a PACFA licensed nonprofit rescue, we do not receive funding. We do not charge people for surrendering their birds. We SOLELY rely on our community to help provide the enrichment and quality of life these birds deserve. To find out more about us, visit us on Facebook and see what we do every day with these amazing parrots. You can also visit our website www.3PRofCO.org for more information.

Gatos de la Noche is a small rescue and our mission is to actively facilitate and support the humane treatment of feral cat colonies. This includes participating in Trap Neuter and Return (TNR) of feral cats, seeking medical attention for cats that are ill or hurt, setting up feeding stations for anyone willing to feed a colony on a daily basis, trapping kittens and finding foster homes to socialize them and training others to do the same. We do this to help the cats that are overlooked by society.

We are a new, small rescue based in Charleston, WV. We have been approved for 501(c)(3) status by the IRS. Currently, our rescue is run by me, Cindy Limer, and Regina Cordell. We have bee friends for 40 years and decided to go legit with our efforts. Our goal is to save and assist stray, unwanted, or abandoned cats. West Virginia has a huge problem with overpopulation and we hope we can counter this with education and public outreach. We offer a full-service rescue and are growing quickly every day with donation and volunteers. I am a Registered Veterinary Technician, so we can cut down on some intake costs by performing some tests in-house.

We rescue mastiffs and other giant breed dogs. I am retired from education, and I do this full time now. I have rescued and transported dogs for many years, but now I work at it full time. I specialize in senior dogs and hospice care, but I love dogs and want to help them find homes.
