From the Founder: My name is Hollie Hastings and I love animals. Dogs are the best. They give you unconditional love and always forgiving and trusting. Approximately ten years ago, our family adopted a six month old Rotweiler named Harley from our local SPCA and he was one of the best dogs. When Harley was 10 months old, he developed a limp, so we took him to the vet and it was determined that he had a rare cancer in his spine. Harley underwent surgery and soon was unable to walk. Shortly after, we began fostering a dog named Bandit who would play with Harley's toys and Harley got so sad. Harley began to receive radiation and after two two treatments, he started to walk. We truly believe that Bandit had more to do with Harley walking then the treatments. Just after his final treatment (a total of 15), Harley was able to fully walk, stand and potty on his own. It was immensely rewarding to see our dear boy getg better. He no longer needed to be carried, bladder expressed or use a wheelchair. At the age of four, unfortunately, the cancer came back and it quickly spread throughout his whole body and shortly thereafter, we knew it was time to say goodbye. Letting Harley go was one of the hardest things we've ever had to do. We cherish our meomories of him, still think of him often and miss him dearly. I realize that the four years we had together were worth every tear shed. My Harley was the sweetest boy even with the pain, and enduring the the bloodwork and radiation treatments. After losing our sweet dar Harley, when I would go to a shelter and see an older dog, I would think how could someone abandon their dog. Bandit is now nine, slowing down and having great difficulty walking and standing but I would never give him away because he is old. When the time comes to let Bandit go, tears will be shed. Dogs like Harley and Bandit are the reason why I decided to start a rescue so that I could help pets that need to find new homes because their owners could no longer keep them due to death, deployment, going into nursing home, moving, etc. AMMF wants to help dogs find the best fitting homes for each dog that comes into our rescue. We are especially interested in helping to place older dogs with older people. In addition, we want to take dogs to visit nursing homes, VA hospitals, schools, etc. because dogs truly help sick people smile and feel good, educate children about responsible pet ownership, including but not limited to spay/neuter, walking a dog, feeding a dog, approching a strange dog, etc.

Who We Are & What We Do Little Shelter is a nonprofit animal rescue organization. We take abused and abandoned animals from the streets and from those awaiting death at the municipal pounds. We provide a safe, caring and nurturing environment for these animals while they are waiting for loving adoptive homes. All prospective homes are carefully screened to ensure happy endings. No animal is ever destroyed at Little Shelter unless he or she is incurably ill. Spaying and neutering is important to our cause. We spay and neuter all of our animals as soon as is medically possible. The minimal adoption donation paid upon adoption includes all the medical procedures that we have done on the animal being adopted, including the spaying and neutering. Little Shelter is situated on six acres in Huntington, Long Island, 30 minutes east of New York City. Our Sheltervale Pet Cemetery operates on three acres. There are six buildings, two kennels including outdoor runs, one large communal cattery with individual rooms for nursing mothers, an isolation and medical building and a five room house that serves as office and administrative space. At any given time, we are the temporary home to more than 300 animals. Last year we placed over 600 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies into loving homes. With your help we will save even more this year.

We match the dog with the adopter after our fosters have had time to get to know each of them. At the shows we talk with applicants interested.. We want the best fit possible. Our adopters agree our process helps them find the right fit. We are proud to say after 7 years and almost 1300 dogs adopted, we have only >1% return rate. Our passion for sending them home to the right family makes our work so rewarding.

Animalert Pet Adoption Inc.

Animalert was founded in London, Ontario, Canada in 1977 by four animal lovers who wanted to ensure that pets were adopted by caring guardians. We now have about 35 active members, plus our large network of volunteers, which helps us spread the word about our adoption program and raise funds to offset our operating expenses. We are able to place about 250 cats and dogs a year into responsible, loving homes. Not bad for a volunteer group, but we'd like to do better and with your help, we can! Animalert focuses on three main areas: Adoption, Education, and Spaying/Neutering.

Bully Rescue & Advocacy Group, Inc.

VA
23831
Bully Rescue & Advocacy Group envisions a world where all pets are free from abuse, neglect and discrimination. As an all volunteer rescue & advocacy group our mission is to rescue animals who have been abused, abandoned, or otherwise destined to be euthanized at the hands of humans who have failed them. We are an all-breed rescue with a soft spot in our hearts for the misunderstood bully breed dogs. Our goal is to help educate others and erase negative stigma associated with “Pit Bull” dogs. By working with responsible foster homes, we are able to provide our dogs with a loving environment which includes being kept indoors as a family pet, socialized, trained on the basics including manners & crate training. Through donations, all animals rescued by BRAG shall be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and implanted with microchip before being adopted into a well matched and carefully screened adoptive home. We also work with responsible owners who need assistance with food, routine care & training. We believe in the No Kill Equation. We believe dogs are individuals and should not be labeled. We believe that all dogs deserve a second, third or more chance at living the best life they can possibly live. We believe there is no such thing as a bad dog, only bad owners. We believe that all animals need to be in an environment to fit their specific needs & personality. We believe that dogs are intended to be family pets and place them accordingly. We believe that when people are considering pet ownership, they should consider adoption from a rescue or shelter rather than for profit breeders or puppy mills.

Spaniel Rescue was founded October 16, 2011. We primerely rescue spaniels but we will take in other small breed dogs whenever we can. I choose spaniels because l adopted a spaniel from a puppy mill when he was just 3 1/2 months old and almost died several times. It just seemed to be the right breed to start and rescue. Since l was a child l would bring home stray animals including a goose, snake, frogs, dogs, kittens, crow and other birds. It is just who l am and will continue doing this work with my final breath.

We provide education, support and resources so that pet guardians can maintain safe, healthy and loving home environments to their companion animals. Through promoting responsible guardianship, we hope to reduce the number of animals surrendered to local shelters and rescues and to prevent countless animals from being euthanized. When all resources have been exhausted and any particular animal is still not in a safe and stable environment, we will offer the family re-homing as a final measure.
