The Halfway House Animal Rescue specializes in saving dogs that are on their last day at the Rowan County Animal Control in Salisbury, NC, as well as abandoned, neglected, abused, and unwanted dogs in Rowan County and the surrounding areas. We realized there was a serious need for rescues willing to work specifically with this Animal Control facility, and this county. The shelter is very small and rural. Some days the shelter sees intakes of 30+ dogs and cats, who get anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks to get adopted before they have to be euthanized for space. Not only do we take in the dogs on their last day, but we also take in starving, abused, injured, and senior dogs from the shelter and local community. We are 100% foster based at this time, although our goal is to eventually have a facility. We believe that all dogs deserve a chance at a warm, safe home, regular meals, basic vet care, and love and affection. Because of this, we take in dogs that need emergency medical care, heartworm positive dogs, seniors in need of hospice care, and hard to adopt out breeds, such as Bully breeds. Please consider adopting, fostering, donating, and sharing our page to help us continue to save dogs in our community. We appreciate your support! Feel free to email us at: thehalfwayhouseforanimals@gmail.com

We are a non profit that focuses on providing services to the community to promote the welfare of cats. We operate an affordable spay/neuter clinic, where the cost of the surgeries are subsidized by our donors. Our services are available for any member of the community, as we do not limit by income. We are one of the foremost clinics in Colorado for feral cats. We recognize that when a feral cat is brought to us, it may be the only time it will be seen by a vet in its lifetime. We make sure we what we can for the ferals to ensure they have the best life possible once they are returned to where they came from. We also run a foster/adoption program for kittens. We specialize in socializing feral kittens and all of our foster parents receive training to learn how to help these kittens. We are a foster based organization but do have an adoption room at our locations that our kittens stay at during the week. We also provide trap rentals to anyone in the community that is looking to help a feral cat through TNR. We provide all of these services to help all cats, whether they be a house cat in need of spay/neuter or a community cat through our different programs. Through the two and a half years that our foster/adoption program has been in place, we have been able to pull around 400 kittens off the streets and get them into loving homes. This has decreased the number of feral cats being born outside and give these kittens a life of always being loved and cared for.

DITR's mission is to bring dogs in need together with the people that need them most - matching shelter dogs with people impacted by disability. We believe that the human-animal bond supports health and wellness on both sides of the human-animal equation resulting in benefits for the dogs and people alike. In order to accomplish our mission we carefully screen dogs in shelters with the goal of selecting dogs that appear to be a good fit for our applicants based on each applicant's lifestyle, and their particular wants and needs as they relate to an "ideal dog". Dogs are then fostered by a DITR associate for up to 30 days for further evaluation, socialization ,and basic training including crate training, house training, manners, and basic commands. The program was developed by and is overseen by professionals in the field of service dog training, animal behavior, veterinary medicine, and professionals from well established organizations that work with individuals impacted by disability. The goal of our careful screening, evaluation, and training and matching process is to ensure that dogs and individuals are well matched and to prepare dogs and their new families for a smooth transition - reducing barriers to adoption for individuals that struggle with the daily challenges of disability. Once dogs complete the in-home evaluation and training the dog's foster will complete an in-home orientation at the adoptive families home in order to demonstrate commands and review daily routines with the dog's new family.
